What is Thrive?

Thrive is a woman-founded and led company with a dedication to making brilliant, natural food and beverages that do good for your body.

We chose the name Thrive because of the wonderful health benefits that come from the natural living cultures found in our kombucha. We learn and grow through our relationship with amazing ingredients like Scoby.

Based in beautiful, bustling Chennai, we began Thrive with the goal of providing natural and healthy food and beverages to families all across India. With the ever growing trend of processed and fast-food in India, we felt the need to spark change and create healthier options that taste even better.

Our recipe includes the best natural ingredients we could find, including whole leaf Assam & Darjeeling tea grown here in India. We also feed our Kombucha with fresh fruits and other natural ingrediants and in return we get our signature, effervescent Kombucha flavors.

We ferment our Kombucha in a specially manufactured higher grade Stainless Steel canisters to maintain the live SCOBY. Our artisinal kombucha is handcrafted in small batches in Chennai.

We drink Kombucha because it tastes great, replaces sugary sodas and makes us feel healthy. We hope you enjoy it too.

Kombucha is our first product and we are putting our love and passion into making it perfect for our family, friends, and fans 🙂

What is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a naturally bubbly fermented, lightly effervescent, sweetened black or green tea drink full of probiotics & enzymes commonly consumed for its supposed health benefits.

Kombucha is produced by fermenting sugared tea using a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast ( SCOBY). The micribial populations in a SCOBY vary; the yeast component generally includes Saccharomyces cerevisiae, along with other species; the bacterial component almost always includes Gluconacetobacter xylinus to oxidize yeast-produced alcohols to acetic acid (and othher acids). The living bacteria are said to be probiotic, one of the reasons for the popularity of the drink.

Kombucha originated in Northeast China around 220 B.C. and was initially prized for its healing properties. Its name is reportedly derived from Dr. Kombu, a Korean physician who brought the fermented tea to Japan as a curative for Emperor Inkyo. Eventually the tea was brought to Europe as a result of trade route expansions in the early 20th century, most notably appearing in Russia (as “Kambucha”) and Germany (as “Kombuchaschwamm”). Despite a dip in international popularity during WWII due to the shortage of tea and sugar supplies, kombucha regained popularity following a 1960s study in Switzerland comparing its health benefits.
